Millennials are obsessed with photos. One of the main reasons we love social media is because it gives us a platform to share pictures that garner comments and “likes”.

If you’re taking horse riding lessons, you might want to pose for the gram.

Here are a few tips for nailing your photoshoot with the pony:

Figuring out the right orientation

If you’re generally habitual of taking our picture in the portrait done, we are not sure it’ll work in the case of horse photos too. Horses have long bodies which won’t always fit in the portrait frame. Always take your pictures in landscape mode. You can crop and edit these later on.

The right kind of lighting is equally important. If you’re attending an indoor horse-riding lesson, you can expect the lighting to be either very harsh or unnatural. Always aim for a time when you get plenty of natural light.

It helps to have a photographer who is an equestrian too. They’ll know just the right moment to take photos when the horse is fully ready or has its ears forward.

The more, the merrier

Your horse doesn’t know that they’re the center of attention for the day. It’ll take you many attempts to get them to pose the right way or at least the way that you want them to. The key is to take as many pictures as you can.

Try as many angles as you can. Make sure you have ample storage space. You don’t want a full storage notification just when your little pony seems to be in the right mood. Look into the camera in multiple ways, other than the eye level itself.

Plan your way through the shoot

You not only want to feel and look your best for the shoot but want to groom your horse as well. It’s important that the two of you look picture perfect. Turn up to the lessons a bit earlier than usual to give your horse a quick makeover. It’s essential that you’re happy with your outfit and have planned it well in advance.
